It has the smallest capacity petrol engine ever to power an Audi but uses turbo charging so that its output is still impressive.
The engine weighs just 89.5 kg as it has an aluminium crankcase, yet generates the same 105PS output as the 1.6-litre naturally-aspirated unit it replaces.
It also boasts 175Nm of torque between just 1,500 and 4,100 rpm, which is an increase of 27Nm over its predecessor.
Commenting on the A3s two-part rear car led bulbs, Audi said: "Striking fibre optic LED technology in the rear lights creates a clear, distinguishing feature, especially at night."
